On October 17th, the 3rd International Festival of The Russian Children's Song "Chiriku" reached its finale with a grand gala concert at the Russian Centre for Science and Culture (RCSC) in Dar es Salaam. It turned out one of the main events in the celebrations of the 30th anniversary of the RCSC which was opened in Tanzania on December 1st, 1990.

Based on the results of competitive auditions, the festival jury selected 5 vocal groups and 4 soloists to participate in the gala concert. Under restricted conditions of the pandemic, an online competition was also conducted for young talents in other cities in Tanzania and in other countries. Performers from Madagascar and France were selected. A total of 64 participants performed at the concert, having sung 22 children's songs that are popular in Russia, well-known to both the young generation as well as adults, primarily from their favourite cartoons.

The Grand Prix of the “Chiriku” 2020 festival was awarded to the 8-year-old soloist Karina Kiwale, who brilliantly sang the famous song “Black Cat”, and to the group “Rainbow” for performing songs from the cartoon about Leopold the Cat.

This annual project undertaken by the Representative Office of “Rossotrudnichestvo” in Tanzania, which goes by the name “Chiriku International Festival of Russian Children's Song” started in the fall of 2018 and has become appreciable and essential in the country where contemporary songs for children are yet to be composed. After all, it is intended not only to arouse the younger generation's interest in the cultural wealth of Russia and of the Russian language, but also to direct Tanzanian musicians towards the fulfilment of the most important task - to develop a national musical culture for children as well as children's musical creativity.
